Shareholder benefits are distributed primarily through NOK’s two Trusts that were created by the Board of Directorsand established by Shareholder vote. The Trusts include:
Shareholder Permanent
Fund Trust
The NOK Shareholder Permanent Fund Trust (SPFT) was approved on September 21, 2002, at the 28th Annual Meeting of Shareholders. The SPFT was created to provide the following benefits:
Promote health, education, and welfare to beneficiaries.
Preserve the heritage and culture of the Alutiiq people of Kodiak Island.
Provide monetary distributions.
SPFT is an independent legal entity organized under Alaska law and is governed by a nine-member Board of Trustees who are the same individuals as the NOK Board of Directors.
NOK Benefits Trust
The NOK Benefits Trust (BT) is a settlement trust that was approved on September 15, 2018, at the 44th Annual Meeting of Shareholders. It allows NOK to make tax-advantaged contributions to the Trust and to provide expanded benefits to beneficiaries. The BT’s purpose is to provide:

Other Shareholder Benefits
NOK Shareholders and registered Descendants are issued a unique NOK identification number and ID Card. This ID Card can be used for the Alutiiq Museum, land-use permits, and more. Please contact the NOK office if you do not have an NOK ID card.
The NOK Scholarship Program is designed to support and uplift the next generation of Shareholders and Descendants through educational opportunities. Created in loving memory of NOK Shareholders, this program honors their legacy by helping others move forward. Whether pursuing college, vocational training, or other educational goals, recipients are empowered to build brighter futures for themselves and their families.
